“One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be a different place because I was important in the life of a young person.” Anonymous Evelyn (Eveej) Malone is a retired Professional Educator, and Political Activist. She was a public school teacher ,in her home State of Texas, for 24 years. Two consecutive years, Evelyn was named “Teacher of the Year,” for two schools in which she taught. Additionally, during the latter part of the 90’s she lived in Northern Mexico, in the State of Coahuila, for two years, and taught TOEFL Preparation(Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) to Mexican students who were desiring to study abroad. During her six year stay in Frankfurt, Germany, Evelyn taught Public Speaking and Essay Writing Skills/Strategies at a renowned University. Her students were from 15 different nations. In January 2017, Evelyn, along with other community members, organized an Indivisible group, in Northeastern Illinois. She has served as Chairperson for the group since the beginning. She’s been an active member of MoveOn since 2017. Evelyn has since participated in and led a host of events and actions, in conjunction with MoveOn. One of those actions, in 2018, “Families Belong Together,” led Evelyn to establish an ongoing partnership with a nearby shelter. She and her group provides school supplies and clothing for (UAC)Unaccompanied Children, from Mexico, specifically. Through the combined efforts of her activism with MoveOn, in 2018, she led her group to participate in the “Blue Wave” initiative. Through that initiative, in Illinois, where she presently lives, two Congressional Districts, 6 and 14, were flipped from Red to Blue. Evelyn is the StoryTelling Lead for MoveOn and she will serve as Midwest Regional Caucus Space leader for MoveOn. On June 19, 2020, Evelyn, along with five young professionals, two of which are her granddaughters, organized the“AntiRacist.Jubilee.Symposia(Celebrate.Educate.Cultivate).The group hosts monthly events. To date, the group has hosted Representative Ron Reynolds from the Texas State Legislature, The Honorable Gary Bledsoe from the Texas State Conference of the NAACP and key leaders, friends/organizers from MoveOn, to name a few. As the 2022 midterm is upon us, Evelyn is poised to help register as many voters as possible, through her position as Coordinator for Deputy Voter Registrars in the Illinois County where she resides. The words of her mother still resonate in Ms.Evelyn’s activism,“If you see something that needs to be done…do it!” If you see people who need help..help them.”She credits her mom, school, church and community with guiding her educational and political determinations. Evelyn enjoys reading, studying Spanish, distressing furniture ,traveling, and cooking. She’s very passionate about her family, and remaining in contact with her national and international students.
